Exercise is good for you, but one of the biggest excuses people make is that they don't have enough time to do it. And it's especially harder when you're back home for the holidays and stuffing your face like there's no tomorrow.
But even if you don't work out enough to sweat, that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to slot it in to your daily routine. A new British study involving 26 young men shows that while daily exercise might not be able to burn every calorie you've ingested in your body, it can still make a difference to your health.
The study involved having half the group exercising daily on a treadmill for 45 minutes. All the men were all asked to overeat (75 percent for those who worked out, 50 percent for those who didn't). The findings showed that the non-exercising group...
showed a significant and unhealthy decline in their blood sugar control, and their fat cells were overexpressing genes linked to unhealthy metabolic changes and were under-expressing genes involved in well-functioning metabolism.
These results also suggest that weight gain and weight loss probably can't be explained based on just any simple caloric formulas. As long as you stick to some sort of workout routine, you won't have to feel too guilty about indulging yourself this season.
