China is huge if you haven't noticed. And they've got some massive buildings too. But that's also created a ton of abandoned cities and massive ruins. Most of them, are also brand new and never had people living in them. Here are some of the deserted Chinese cities, and just one look and you're sure Neil Blomkamp wants to film something there. For sure.
Kangbashi New Area, a district of Ordos, Inner Mongolia, Northern China
In 2003, Ordos officials started the planning a new 1 million person city district. With $161 billion investment in 2010, the "Dubai of Northern China" has the capacity for 300,000 people. While it's not a ghost town, it seems that the government can't convince people to move there:
New South China Mall, the largest shopping mall in the world based on gross leasable area, Dongguan, Guangdong Province
Chenggong District, Kunming, Yunnan Province
Beichuan, destroyed by the Sichuan earthquake in 2008
The abandoned and maybe never occupied 40 sq mile (104 sq km) eco city of Jing Jin, Tianjin

Little Paris or Tianducheng, near Shanghai
Little London or Thames Town, near Shanghai
Opened in 2006, Thames Town boasts some Tudor-style houses, the River Thames and an almost Gothic church. It's also really expensive to live here, which is why no one did. Now it's one of those ghost towns perfect for fantasy movies.
Wonderland Amusement Park, 20 miles outside of Beijing in Chenzhuang Village (never opened, construction stopped)
The unfinished and abandoned amusement park was designed to be the largest amusement park in Asia, but construction stopped in 1998.
