Instagram Can Make You Depressed If You Follow Certain Kinds of People

Everyone knows social media can make you feel a tad bit sad about your own uninteresting life. According to a study conducted by researchers at Pace University, the frequent use of Instagram has been linked to symptoms of depression.
The reason? The constant self-comparisons that users make among their peers.
Instagram users followed an average of four strangers for every six people they know in real life.
Those aged between 18 and 29 showed that the number of strangers a user has on their newsfeed may lead to negative comparisons derived from photos that may not be an accurate representation of reality.
Researchers wrote:
… seeing photos of friends and acquaintances might trigger positive feelings, or at least be counterbalanced by knowing how those people actually live, and thus reduce attribution error and thereby negative social comparison.
