This Watch's Tiny Figure Will Get Tired When It Needs a Winding
Mar 08, 2014 20:28
This is cute and also very genius. First, how do you know how much winding your watch requires? The last thing you want to do is to wind it while you're out. Most mechanical watches usually include a power reserve indicator on it, but none of them are as clever as using a tiny creature on MB&F's Legacy Machine N°1 Xia Hang.
The watch was designed by Chinese artist Xia Hang, and it is admittedly very handsome. It features one of his "comma men" creatures that he's been working with for a few years already. The watch refers to the creature as Mr. Up and Mr. Down. When the watch's power reserve gets lower and lower, the figure will slowly slump forward as if he's too exhausted to prop himself up. When you wind the watch, he will will perk back up again.
The $107,000 watch is limited to just 24 pieces in two different finishes. That's right. Cuteness doesn't come cheap.

Greater access to information has given people more control over how they connect with others, while mobile devices have made those opportunities available at almost any moment. Read more
Aviator does not behave like an old casino game moved onto a screen. It feels more like something built for the screen from the start. That is the basic idea behind crash games. They strip the round down to timing. The game shows the risk in real time instead of hiding it behind a spin or a dealt card. Read more
