So Malaysia is making headlines again, and as usual, it's for all the wrong reasons. The latest big hoopla has to do with the recent banning of the
comic book 'Ultraman the Ultra Power' by the Malaysian Home Ministry
(KDN).
Apparently, the comics were banned for containing "elements that threatened public order." This was all despite the fact that the Japanese Tokusatsu series has been airing for decades on local television.
The chances that the Home Ministry will get its way is pretty slim, since it would mean having to get rid of all these other stuff as well:
Ultraman special moves
Ultraman toys
Ultraman video games
Ultraman costumes
And most importantly... Ultraman karaoke?
There's a lot of things we have to thank Ultraman for. Not just for evening past times back in the 80s, but also Pacific Rim. Sure, it's not exactly Ultraman per se, but can you not see the references? Check out the trailer below:
And now check this clip out:
It will be sad to see Ultraman go, though it is probably best that the next generation is exposed to better animation and computer generated effects.
Ultraman represented the good in the fight against evil, and he's always shown us that through courage and perseverance, good always wins. Unfortunately, he'll have to lose this battle. Unless he calls along his entire family for help:
