One of the most unfortunate reasons that happiness remains elusive for many of us is that we aren't necessarily wired in that way. Instead, our behaviours revolve around self-preservation. We prioritize our safety, protection, and survival above all. As a result, while we undoubtedly experience moments of bliss and contentment and periods of joy, few are plagued with negative and persistent emotions. 

The good news is that it's more than possible to find joy in life. Much like everything else, cultivating happiness requires a little practice - it certainly won't happen overnight. With that said, here are a few simple ways to help you discover how to live happier.
1. Concentrate on positivity

To become happy, you have to retrain your thought process to adopt a more positive mindset. It's easier said than done, to be sure, but it's not as complicated as you might think. And you can begin by spending a fair amount of time daily to look for things in your life that you're thankful for. If you do this every day, you'll teach your brain to do it automatically. 

Look for a positive quote or mantra - something that you’ll keep on repeating, like, “it’s going to be a good day today” the moment you wake up. And if things don’t go as planned, try to recognize its silver linings. It will make a difference.

2. Look for a good work-life balance

Everyone needs to work to survive. However, it shouldn’t take up all of your time, or you’ll only burn yourself out. Instead, pursue interests and enjoyable activities apart from your profession. Don’t forget to exercise and be sure to make time for loved ones too. Doing so will enable you to find an acceptable equilibrium between your professional and personal life, drive down your stress levels, and make your life much more fun. 

3. Treat yourself once in a while

Whether it’s a day in the spa or buying that skincare product you’ve always wanted from trusted companies like, you should always learn to treat yourself. After all, it's much harder to stay in a positive disposition if you work solely for the essentials. So don't feel bad about investing in yourself. It's never a waste of money to buy things that make you happy. 

4. Accept your flaws

One of the reasons people end up frustrated and stressed out is that many of us tend to aim for perfection. While pushing yourself to be the best isn’t necessarily bad, you must also know your limits and understand that imperfections are part of life. Through its acceptance, not only will you recognize the grace and beauty in your flaws. But you’ll also avoid feeling disappointed. 


Contrary to popular belief, living a happy life is neither a complicated nor tricky affair. However, it does require some work. But if you’re willing to put in the time to change your thought process, learn to accept what you can’t change, and adopt healthy work-life practices, you’ll be able to live content and satisfied.
