Who would have thought that people we think have the best lives may be the ones that ultimately get the least sleep? As we learned from the infographic below, some of our favorite celebrities often experience troubles with sleeping or are prone to strange sleeping habits.

Those with sleeping problems usually experience insomnia or other sleep-related disorders, and often have to perform bizarre rituals to go back to sleep.

Others either choose to sleep less or more than eight hours, or have strange sleeping habits before going to bed, as to increase their levels of productivity, creativity, and what-not.

Some of these celebs go to such extremes because they believe that sleeping rituals actually define how successful they are. Here are some of the most bizarre sleeping habits, while many more can be found in the infographic below.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

The former governor of California and the world-renown actor Schwarzenegger has quite a particular schedule when it comes to sleeping. He only sleeps for six hours, but constantly takes a nap during the afternoon.

Madonna

The queen of pop doesn’t really have a bizarre sleeping habit, but actually has a true sleeping problem. It’s reported that she’s a long-term insomniac, and only sleeps four hours a day. She takes specific medications to treat insomnia.

Jessica Simpson

Similarly to Madonna, this American singer/actress also suffers from insomnia. It’s actually psychophysiological insomnia, which is said to be one of the most difficult types of this disorder. The patient worries and often experiences anxiety about how much sleep they’ll get and whether they’re going to get enough sleep.

The worry often starts before going to bed, which is why they can’t fall asleep. However, something that often helps Jessica sleep better is lying on the floor instead of the bed.

Jimmy Kimmel

Kimmel, the host and producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live, has a sleeping problem as well. However, instead of having difficulties falling asleep, he has the opposite issue. Kimmel is narcoleptic, which causes him to fall asleep at the most inconvenient times and places. He admits to having fallen asleep in his car and during writer’s meetings.

Shaquille O’Neal

Who would have thought that Shaq would also have a sleeping disorder? This retired basketball legend suffers from sleep apnea, which is a condition that causes his breathing to periodically stop for a few seconds during the sleep. This can often happen several times during the night and last for more than 10 seconds.

W.C. Fields

Fields was one of the most popular comedians of his time, and just like so many people before and after him, he also suffered from insomnia. The only way he was able to fall asleep was by listening to the sound of rain.

For that reason, Fields attached a sprinkler to a big umbrella so as to emulate the sounds of rain. It’s a good thing that today we can get that sound with only a click of a button.

As it turns out, sleeping might not be as easy as we all thought. Even some of our favorite celebrities oftentimes have trouble sleeping and have to rely on strange habits to fall asleep.
