There's no denying that golf is a game played and enjoyed by millions of people each year. It's a game of skill, and one where people of all ages and abilities can play. The thing about golf is that it's one of the easiest pastimes to learn.
You can also learn at your pace. And, the sense of accomplishment you'll receive is immense! Are you thinking of learning how to play golf? If so, congratulations! You will be learning a game that you can enjoy playing at any time, and in any part of the world.
So, how do you get started learning to play golf? In today's blog post, I will give you a run-through of what you need to know. Once you've read this and start playing, feel free to let us know how you get on! Anyway, without further ado, here is how you learn to play golf the right way:
First of all, before you do anything, you need the proper attire for playing golf. Most people assume that you have to wear unfashionable clothing like you might see some wear! The truth is; you only need to wear clothes that are comfortable to have on when playing golf.
Golf is very much a physical game. You'll do a lot of walking, swinging of golf clubs and carrying stuff. If you play golf on a hot summer's day, you'll melt if you wear a wool jumper and thick trousers! As you would each day, make sure you dress in appropriate clothing.
I recommend wearing items that are loose yet comfortable to wear. Consider wearing items made of cotton so you don't end up being too sweaty! I should point out that some golf ranges have a dress code. Make sure you research if there are any before you visit to play a round or two of golf.
Learn the rules
As with any sport, golf is one that gets covered by a whole host of rules. When you start playing in tournaments, you'll need to know what those rules are. The good news is it's not such a daunting to learn what you should and shouldn't do in golf.
Sure, you could buy and read some golfing rulebooks. But, did you know you can also learn by watching some tutorial videos online? As part of the learning process, I recommend learning about the rules of golf as you develop your skills.
Buy suitable golf clubs
You'll probably know by now that you can use a range of different golf clubs to play the game. From irons to drivers, there are plenty of clubs to use for different situations. Most golf courses will let you hire some clubs and balls, for that matter.
Still, I recommend that you buy a set to learn with. You don't need to spend a fortune on them as you can upgrade when you improve your golfing skills. To save money, you could always buy a secondhand set of clubs. Whichever ones you buy, be sure to try them out first. That's because they come in a range of measurements (such as loft and lie angles).
Choose the right golf course to play at
Sure, you could start learning to play golf in your garden at home. You could even learn indoor golf using a launch monitor to start with, but, at some point, you'll need to play at a golf course.
Last, but not least, you should consider playing golf when you next go on holiday! Taking time away from everyday life is always a good idea. Why not add to your level of fun by playing a round of golf somewhere new?
If it rains a lot where you live, playing golf in sunnier climes will seem like a brilliant idea. Imagine the sun basking down on you as you take your shot. You're on holiday and don't have to worry about getting back somewhere for a specific time. You'll want to do this every day!
Some popular countries to visit for playing golf include the south of Spain and Portugal. Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEfpmimv5Vw to see what it's like playing in the latter country.
