In an effort to save his mother's life after a car accident, Phantom the baby koala thought it would be best to continue clinging on to her while she was in surgery. His mother was hit by a car on Warrego Highway in Australia.
This is Phantom, hugging on to his mom, Lizzy.

She suffered severe injuries including facial trauma and a collapsed lung.
Phantom was at his mother's side throughout the operation.
He was unharmed from the accident.
Presumably because mom was there to protect him.
The two are recovering now at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.
