Eleanor Hawkins is among three other Western tourists who are now being held by police after a picture of them appearing to strip on Mount Kinabalu was posted online. According to her father, she is 'very scared,' and 'very upset.'

Eleanor was arrested on Tuesday in Borneo while trying to make her way to Kuala Lumpur. She is one of the 10 people who were accused of stripping on the top of Mount Kinabalu on 30 May.

Following that, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck, killing 18 people.

Indigenous Kadazan Dusun people believe that the Mountain is sacred, and the state of Sabah's deputy chief minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin said that the quake was "confirmation" that Kinabalu was sacred and had to be treated with respect.

The tourists that stripped on top of the mountain ignored warnings not to do it by the guides, and even went as far as to tell the guide to "fuck off". Many on social media are saying "serves them right" since they have utterly no respect for foreign culture.

Many were also quick to point out that the reason she's scared and upset is because she got caught. Otherwise, she'd be chasing the likes on FB and Instagram.

Eleanor's father, Timothy Hawkins, issued a statement:

We managed to speak to Ellie yesterday morning and she is obviously quite scared and upset.

She knows what she did was stupid and disrespectful and she is very sorry for the offence she has caused the Malaysian people. She has never been in any sort of trouble before.

We hope that the Malaysian authorities deal with the misdemeanor and not link it to he unfortunate tragic events that happened the following week.

If found guilty, they could face three months in prison, or be fined, or both. Many people online believe they definitely deserve getting arrested and hope they get the maximum penalty for their crime.

Eleanor Hawkins graduated from the University of Southampton with a master's in aerospace engineering last year and one would think someone with such brains, wouldn't do something so stupid and disrespectful like that.

If you're traveling to another country, please remember to respect their culture and beliefs. Otherwise, you might have to pay dearly for a mistake that could have been avoided if you weren't an A-hole in the first place.
