Divorce settlements are more expensive than getting married. That's because to break your vows, some divorces get half of a spouse's fortune. Divorcee Sue Ann Arnall refused a $974,790,317.77 cheque as her settlement.
Harold Hamm, CEO of Continental Resources gave his ex-wife this cheque:
It was supposed to fulfill the remainder of his court-ordered settlement for $1 billion.
But Arnall, refused it and sent it back. She was married to Hamm for over 26 years and her lawyers believe that $1 billion is inadequate compared to his estimated $18-19 billion fortune. She claims to have helped build up his empire and is keeping 90 percent of it.
Hamm insisted that he owned 68 percent stake prior to their marriage.
Hamm called the initial $1 billion settlement fair, but after oil prices continued to drop, slicing the company's worth in half, he filed an appeal to pay her even less. Arnall won't stop until she gets what she believes she is fairly owed to her for her work in the marriage and the company.
How will this end, we wonder?
