It almost seems like yesterday, when Samsung announced its flagship Galaxy S4 phone. Now, it looks like some details of their next generation S5 have been leaked to SamMobile.
Screens are already getting sharper with higher pixel density and storage is being boosted by the cloud. What more can developers do?
Samsung tried to push "smart" features over specs with the S4 but failed. The problem wasn't its approach to create a "Samsung experience", but the fact that the features weren't very useful and didn't work too well. Not many people actually use Air Gesture or Smart Eye control.
But according to SamMobile's report, Samsung may return to increase the specs once again and make the Galaxy S5 a real powerhouse of a device. Rumors suggest that the phone will have a 5.25 inch AMOLED display with a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution, Exynos 6/Snapdragon 805 processor and 16-megapixel rear camera, possibly with optical image stabilization.
It will run on Android 4.4 KitKat and most likely be completed with Samsung's TouchWiz UI. The pic you see above was obtained from notorious phone leaker @evleaks.
Also, the S5 could get more premium. That means, no more plasticy feel. Samsung will reportedly follow Apple with two models - one in plastic and one in premium metal. They believe that the metal S5 will sport a metal black cover and metal sides and front. Price difference is a definite for this one.
And like the usual Samsung M.O., there will be spin-offs too, with SamMobile reporting two spin-off devices - the GS5 Mini and GS5 Zoom, rumored for a June and May unveil. Details are still scant on that one.
Will an increase in specs help Samsung retain its number 1 position?
