On January 19th, KBS announced that Lee Hyori will donate the money she has received for narrating a documentary about “Everyday Heroes” to a couple who appears in the show.
“Everyday Heroes” tells the story of people who stand up for important causes through volunteer work and is set to air on Jan. 22.
A couple in the show that goes by the name of “Chinese Pancake Pair” will receive Lee’s donation, which is of an undisclosed amount. The two make hotteok (sweet pancakes stuffed with brown sugar) for under-fed children and disabled people and pay for ingredients out of their own pockets.
“Lee is embarrassed that people are praising her about making a donation as she feels it’s not a big deal,” a representative from the show said.
Lee has made a name for herself through her philanthropic work. In the past, she donated 50 million won ($44,000) to support elderly people who live alone. She is also an animal rights activist, and last month, she launched a 2012 calendar, with proceeds from its sale slated to fund animal shelters that house unwanted dogs.
