Note the x-ray in the photo above? That snapped femur and fractured pelvis happens to belong to Ben Cornick, a skydiver who has somehow managed to defy the odds after plunging 12,000 feet into a van.
Ben had somehow lost control of his chute as he attempted the jump in Fiji last week. The force in which he crashed into the vehicle is believed to have be more than 40 mph.
Ben was forced to pay $37,500 Australian dollars (around $33,000 USD) because he had no insurance. Most of the funds was used for the emergency flight to New Zealand where the doctors could operate. So even if he pulled through, he also risked going into major debt. And the guy just celebrated the birth of his firstborn kid before flying off to Fiji.
Luckily for Ben, his friends and family managed to set up a Facebook page to ask for donations. The story went viral and they managed to raise nearly $50,000
to pay for the surgery and follow-up care. As of now, Ben seems to be in good enough spirits, even though he's facing another three weeks in the hospital.
