Switching from Cigarettes to Vaping: Here are Some Things You Should Know
Dec 25, 2018 01:35
We all know that smoking cigarette can cause illnesses, but if you develop the habit, it's hard to kick. It is one of the reasons we continually look for alternatives that are safer. In comes the vape. The first time that vaping became known in the market, people called it electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes. Nowadays people call them personal vaporizers or just vapes. If you are a smoker and you are thinking of quitting but cannot do it cold turkey, you can try vaping and see for yourself the difference. Here are some things you need to know about vapes and vaping.
Electronic device
The vape is a far cry from the conventional cigarette. It is an electronic device that you charge in order to use. You pour a small amount of juice into it to start vaping. The juice comes in different varieties of flavors: mint, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and so many more. The 1960s saw the invention of the first ever vape, but they rejected the patent for the concept. The vapes that we see and use these days are from a Chinese pharmacist’s concept.
E-juice
The juice is what you put in the device that makes the smoke and gives you different flavors. Vapes use E liquid that is made of four main ingredients: nicotine, flavorings, propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin. Many people who used to smoke cigarettes prefer tobacco-flavored juices, to mimic the taste of regular cigarettes. They also mix them up with fruit flavors. Juices vary in their nicotine content. It is wise to try different nicotine contents to determine which one suits you best. But if nicotine is not your thing, there are juices with no nicotine content at all.
Vaping etiquette
Just like smoking cigarettes, you should consider everyone around you when vaping. Although they do not have the normal tobacco smell, some people prefer not to smell smoke – regardless of flavor – at all. You can smoke it in your house, as it does not leave a lingering smell as tobacco does. If you are in other places, always ask beforehand if you can vape around them or if they have a designated smoking area.
Is vaping good for your health?
You may hear some differing opinions about vaping, such as it is as bad as smoking cigarettes, or it is a safe alternative. For the most part, vaping is generally safer than cigarettes and other tobacco products. The harm that it can cause is less than a tenth of a cigarette’s potency. There is also little effect on the cardiovascular system. We all know how harmful cigarettes and tobacco products are to health, so vaping is the best alternative. But just like any product we take, it is best to consult your physician if you are not allergic to any ingredients in the juice.
A lot of medical practitioners vouch for vapes as being a lot safer than cigarettes. Although their juice also contains nicotine, overall, they are safer for lung health. If you cannot quit smoking altogether, you can try vaping and eventually kick the habit of smoking.
