The ocean is truly a marvelous wonder. But humans are destroying it, and endangering the life that lives in it. We are throwing so much trash into it that it's becoming a huge problem. In fact, if  we don't do something about it, we'll be in some serious trouble soon. Enter Boyan Slat. He's got an idea to help.


1. A 2,000m floating line will become the longest floating structure in the world when it gets deployed in 2016.


2. It is part of the first stage in 20-year-old Boyan Slat's plan to rid the oceans of floating plastic waste.


3. It involves targeting rotating ocean currents full of waste and skimming the trash.


4. His goal is to build a 100km floating array that would be able to collect 70,320,000 kg of plastic waste over 10 years.


5. He estimates that it would cost roughly 4.53 euros per kilogram, which is only 3% of the cost of other potential clean-up methods.
