Love the taste of wine? Love how it's fruity, sweet, and more? Apparently, koala urine taste just the same! The whole thing began in 1966, when scientists isolated a component of wine, calling it 'wine lactone.'

They were right, at least for the lactone part. Except, they got the wine part wrong.

Wine lactone was discovered in 1975, and it was discovered that if you feed a koala eucalyptus leaves and wait for it to pee...

One of the things that it will pee out is wine lactone.

Erm..yucks?

To be fair, lactone in wine is only one specific isomer, so don't worry, you're only drinking part koala urine.
