The skill of paper art is underrated and there is far more to the art form than simple Origami. Working creatively with paper takes practice and talent and different artists from around the world enjoy showing off their expertise to show us how amazing working with paper can be.

Origami originated in Japan more than 2,000 years ago and the intricate art form has evolved throughout the years.  Long gone are the days when a conventional folded paper bird is enough to amaze the crowds and now realistic 3D depictions of everything from elephants to giraffes are now created with minute details.

José Suris IV: Suris is a Brooklyn based artist who creates masks and sculptures of animals and the lifelike fur that he uses on his work give it a unique edge. He gets his inspiration from many everyday things including cartoons and internet videos, and much of his work resembles that of a taxidermist. Using paper, paperclay, wirefoam and Styrofoam, Suris enjoys displaying his creations by hanging them on the wall. You can take a look at his work here.



Diana Beltran Herrera: Originally from Columbia, Herrera is skilled at creating abstract paper art such as flowers. Her lifelike sculptures have already gotten her noticed on the Instant Print blog. A notable quality about Herrera’s style is that her work represents reality as everything she creates stands in its ideal state. Her style is fun yet visually stunning and some of her most notable work includes life-sized sculptures of hummingbirds and birds of paradise.



Wolfram Kampffmeyer: German-born Kampffmeyer has a different take on paper art and creates amazing geometric designs. Like Herrera, he likes to play with bright colours, to design eye-catching animals with unusual shapes by using dramatic folding lines. His paper creations have a realistic feel to them as he enjoys using the correct colours for each animal such as pale pink for folded flamingos and orangey browns for paper foxes.
