It takes a lot of guts to wrestle a shark in order to save its life. This grey nurse shark you see above was spotted off a Sydney beach struggling to breathe because her gills had been encircled by an elastic cord:



To rescue the shark, members of the Manly Sea Life team would first have to wrestle her up to the surface without frightening her or any of her circling friends.

The injured shark was then wrapped and placed into a restraining stretcher. A veterinarian then cut the cord and checked for any other injuries before releasing the endangered shark. It is estimated there are only around 1,500 grey nurse sharks left on the east coast of Australia.
