This painting from 1969 titled "Three Studies of Lucian Freud" just sold for a record-breaking $142.4 Million. That's the most anyone has ever paid for a work of art at an auction. According to the New York Times, there were apparently 7 bidders going for it, both in the room and by phone.

The previous record holder for most valuable work of art sold at auction is the famous art work "The Scream" by Edvard Munch. The painting was reportedly sold to financier Leon Black for $120 million at a Sotheby's auction back in May 2013.
