Remember that crazy video featuring two women freaking out at Beer Factory that went viral last week? SURPRISE (not really..) but it was staged to promote the drinking hole.
Ranessa Vibar, who claims to be one of the "crazy women" in the video, recently confessed on YouTube that it was entirely staged by the establishment.
The video also included this link to a poster on Beer Factory's official Facebook page showing that it was all part of a marketing campaign for the
upcoming Arthur's Day Celebration on 27 September. The
disclaimer reads:
"The recently uploaded viral video on YouTube
entitled "Crazy woman beats up Beer Factory waiter over Guinness" is a
work of pure fiction, recorded and produced by us.
We sincerely apologise to anyone who felt that the video post was offensive or inappropriate.
All
names, characters and the incident itself were fictitious products of
our imagination. Any resemblance to actual events or persons, living or
dead, is entirely coincidental.
The iconic brand GUINNESS and GAB
(Guinness Anchor Berhad) are no way associated nor had any knowledge or
input on the planning and the production of this video.
Whether or not the marketing strategy worked, it's still kinda disturbing that the establishment chose to go with this direction to promote themselves. Not only did it make women come across as nothing but raging harpies who could only be fixed with beer or a good shag, it was just tacky. Here's hoping it doesn't become a trend.
Our piece of advice for aspiring viral marketers: If you want to make something go viral, you'd better have a really convincing concept, script, director, and actors.
