Do you ever think about all there is to do and see in the world and long to ditch your routine to travel somewhere inspiring or exotic or beautiful? If yes, you have experienced wanderlust.
With so many amazing places scattered throughout the world, how does one choose a destination? Sadly, there’s no right answer to this. However, you will (hopefully) find that wherever you end up you will have experiences that will become indispensable and you won’t be able to imagine having been anywhere else during that time.
With that said, it’s nice to have a starting point when you are looking to get away, as the world has no shortage of options. Here are five places sure to satisfy your chronic wanderlust (at least for a bit):
Peru
If you are interested in the ancient peoples and history of the Americas, this is the place. It is home to the Incan city Machu Picchu which is surrounded by archaeological sites. One can participate in traditional medicinal practices with local shaman and other activities like sand surfing. The country also houses the mind-boggling Nazca Lines, colonial cities, amazing wildlife (a portion of the Amazon Rainforest is in Peru) and a rainbow mountain. There is no shortage of things to do here.
France
When in France, one must visit Paris with its iconic sites, such as the Louvre and Eiffel Tower, and an abundance of street markets. After getting your fill of macaroons, travel to Bordeaux to try its famous wine and visit the new wine museum:
Cité du Vin. You will also want to spend some time in the French countryside, famous for its tranquil rolling hills and beautifully built country homes.
Tanzania
More on the adventurous side? If you’ve ever had the desire to go on a safari or experience African wildlife up close, you have to make your way to Tanzania.
The great migration, which occurs year-round, will blow your mind. It is also home to Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, and the tropical islands of Zanzibar where one can see whale sharks and coral reefs.
Thailand
If Asian culture piques your interest, Thailand is a must go. The rich culture is reflected in their stunning architecture and Buddhist temples and practices. The land structures and flora are gorgeous and there are many interesting and beautiful creatures like the
Orchid Mantis to be discovered. You can visit elephant sanctuaries and Bangkok is the spot if you are looking for an urban scene. This trip is also great if you are rubbing pennies together as, after your flight, nothing you do should break the bank.
Australia
Australia is stock full of things to do. It houses huge cities like Sydney and Adelaide with picture-worthy architecture. Australia is also home to the Great Barrier Reef, which is teeming with marine wildlife, and the Outback, a vast interior desert wilderness. Your trip will definitely not lack adventure.
When planning your next international outing, make sure everywhere you go you remain open-minded and respectful and don’t forget your camera!
