Keswick offers a number of popular of walks, due to the Skiddaw mountain looming over the town. Offering the perfect opportunity for an adventure, many of the walks have spectacular views and allow you to explore the area on foot in the open air. With miles and miles of natural beauty, Keswick is a stunning area for a weekend of being active.
From short to long walks, the Lake District offers endless numbers of hiking trails for all abilities. Helvellyn and Scafell Pike are only a short while away, there are endless possibilities.
Visit Historical Sites
While the Lake District is well-known for its activities and sports, there is also a very
historical aspect to the area. Castlerigg Stone Circle is a famous monument, made up of 38 stones. One of Britain’s earliest stone circles, it’s been a protected site since the 1800s. Over 5000 years old, Castlerigg is a dramatic scene and definitely worth exploring.
You can also immerse yourself in a culture of the years gone by; the remains of the Howk Bobbin Mill still stand, despite closing in 1924. An important piece of British history, the mill could be a great way to not only teach your children, but also get a feel for what life used to be like in this area.
Lastly, the Mirehouse Historic House, only a short distance from Keswick, was a popular destination for Wordsworth and other famous poets. Despite being a family home since 1688, it’s now open to visitors. A spectacular building, it’s surrounded by woodland and gardens.
