Forget what you know about not going to bed angry because science is saying otherwise. Staying up to fight it out may help fix what's wrong or not but you might actually be doing a lot of potential damage instead.
When people are mad, they're mad.
Sometimes, inconsolably mad.
And if you go a long period of time without sleep, your brain doesn't work as well as it normally does.
The longer you stay awake, your brain becomes less efficient at burning energy.
As you become less efficient in burning energy, your prefrontal cortex - responsible for judgment and self-control gets affected.
And that's when you might actually do or say something you'll regret.
Sleeping it off may actually be better since your brain actually helps you solve problems - it helps you make sense of things, especially in a complicated fight.
Plus if you don't get a good night's sleep, you get even worse the next day.
So put your fight on hold if you can, just like how Marshall and Lily do it:
