Why we were crazy: Just when the Internet was getting cool and internet chatting became a big thing, people started flocking there.
How it died: Computers got cheaper and people prefer surfing for porn at home, naturally. The cybercafe business imploded and only a few are left, catering to lonely gamers who prefer a life on World of Warcraft instead.
Why we were crazy: Starbucks and Coffee Bean were all the rage. It meant we could hang at places that weren't pubs or clubs.
How it died: It never really died. More Starbucks and Coffee Bean outlets opened up, increasing the number of coffee drinkers tenfolds, though, these days, they aren't as packed as they were back in the day.

Why we were crazy: Dunkin Donuts was already here but just didn't have the appeal. But then Big Apple and J.co came, and then there were really long lines, just to get a donut. Who doesn't love something sweet that has a hole in the middle, right?
How it died: Sugar overdose? No one knows. But the trend took a dip when Krispy Kreme decided to open.

Why we were crazy: Gosh, aren't they just cute. Plus, everyone loves cake, but not so much of it. So a cupcake will do.
How it died: You can't really eat a lot of cupcakes, and turns out, not many people really liked them after all.

Why we were crazy: Do you know how hot it is all the time?
How it died: Bubble tea came.
But there may be hope for icy desserts and it comes in the form of Caffe Benne - they serve icy desserts, gelato, waffles and coffee. A one-stop shop.
Why we were crazy: Sugar plus water. This is a mystery. The ridiculously long queues at ChaTime should have turned people off but it did the exact opposite.
How it died: Mystery solved, I guess.

Why are we so crazy: These are the coffee shops your mom and dad don't go to. Also, lots of beautiful looking people go there.
How it'll die: Hipsters don't have money. Plus, have you seen how they squat there for hours on just one cup of coffee? Not a very sustainable business model unless you have nice food. And unless it attracts your mom and dad.
