Many famous luxury fashion brands have a fascinating history of origin. Let's see how some of the world's most famous brands were created.
Balenciaga: Balenciaga is a brand of women's and men's fashion, leather goods, and perfume founded in 1917 by couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga in San Sebastián and based in Paris since 1937. Cristóbal Balenciaga revolutionized upscale women's fashion and redefined the female silhouette. He was a perfectionist, and his extraordinary craftsmanship skills served him well. He always had innovative, creative ideas and created a sleeker, less playful style through simpler shapes and cuts. Fashion designer Coco Chanel praised him as "the only true couturier among us who can design, cut, prepare and sew together a dress all by himself."
Burberry: The story begins in 1856, when tailor Thomas Burberry opens a store in Hampshire, Basingstoke. About 20 years later, a second store followed in London. At that time, Burberry developed a gabardine fabric that was naturally waterproof due to its very tight weave. In a meteorological context like England's, this gabardine was welcomed by travelers, adventurers, and other nature lovers as a real textile revolution. Burberry soon exported his invention to the rest of Europe and the United States. The famous trench coat is still made in Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
Dior: With the help of industrialist Marcel Boussac, the artist Christian Dior founded the eponymous fashion house in 1946. His first collection with short jackets, tight-fitting and wide skirts (flower calyx line) brought new momentum after the war years. This "New Look" allowed him to rise internationally to become the leading couturier of the 1950s. That same year, Dior, who quickly became the darling of movie stars, launched his first fragrance, "Miss Dior." In 1948, Christian Dior New York Inc. was founded. Under various licenses, nylon stockings, custom-made shoes as well as costume jewelry were produced. After only ten years in the public eye, Christian Dior died at the height of his career in 1957.
Dolce & Gabbana: The name of the label Dolce & Gabbana has its origin in the surnames of the founders and designers of the brand. Domenico Dolce was born in 1958 in Sicily and Gabbana in 1962 in Milan. The two met when Domenico Dolce applied for a job at the Gabbana fashion house. Gabbana quickly recognized Dolce's talent and took him under his wing. The first collection of the two was presented at Milan Fashion Week in 1985. A year later, due to the enormous success, the next collection was presented, and the first store was opened. 2011 the brand Dolce & Gabbana for woman brought out its first jewelry collection. Today, D&G is one of the most popular luxury designer labels in the world.
Louis Vuitton: The unique story of Louis Vuitton began in 1837 when 16-year-old Louis Vuitton set off for Paris. There he completed an apprenticeship as a suitcase manufacturer. In 1854, Louis Vuitton decided to open his workshop. He opened this under the name "Louis Vuitton Malletier" in Paris. "Malletier" in the English language means "suitcase maker". The shape of the suitcases he sold was optimal for the travel conditions of the time. And the suitcases became soon the first choice for wealthy travelers. Together with his son Georges, he developed the revolutionary Tumbler lock in 1886. With this lock, they turned their suitcases into veritable treasure chests. Since people liked to steal while traveling at the time, the lock was a real blessing for travelers. Shortly after the development of the Tumbler lock, Louis Vuitton introduced the legendary checkered pattern "Damier", which still today is one of the most popular fashion patterns in the world.
