Prosthetic hands don't give users any sense of touch, making it impossible to know how much force to use. The researchers at the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University have made one with such tactile abilities.
The researchers embedded 20 sensors that are connected to the nerve bundles in the user's arm. It allows the user to regain the sense of feeling. And unlike prior electrical stimulus methods, this new hand directly stimulates the same nerve endings that are used if there were no injury.
