Not wanting to sound like its not on the bandwagon of clean and efficient energy, Facebook's Data Center Energy Manager Vincent Van Son announced that the new data center in Iowa will be powered solely by wind energy drawn from a nearby farm. This will be Facebook's fourth data center, and the wind farm it will use is located roughly 70 miles north, where the winds are plentiful. It will eventually contribute 138 MW of power. The data center is scheduled to be opened in 2015.
Microsoft and Google are exploring similar projects. Because you know, electricity don't come cheap.
