What will Elon Musk do with his James Bond submarine car? Apparently, the billionaire is going to turn it into working submarine.
The Lotus Esprit, which was featured in the 1977 Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, was famously driven into the ocean off a pier by Bond which then morphed into a submarine. It was put up for auction in early September in England and Musk was the secret buyer paying more than $800k for it.
"It was amazing as a little kid in South Africa to watch James Bond in The Spy Who Loved Me drive his Lotus Esprit off a pier, press a button and have it transform into a submarine underwater. I was disappointed to learn that it can't actually transform."
By outfitting the vehicle with a Tesla electric powertrain, Musk hopes to eventually turn the the fictional car into a functional one. Will he succeed?
