Feeling hungry but know you shouldn't be snacking much to lose that one extra pound you've been trying all month? How about you try some lasers?
In a recent study involving mice, scientists think they have discovered a part of the brain that allows for overeating. They also discovered how to turn it off.
A lot of people are obese, or either overweight. So neuroscientists have been attempting to find which part of the brain that lets us eat just a tad bit much than usual.
They modified the mice so that specific neurons they were targeting would respond to light differently. One group of mice would have light activate a specific part of the brain, and in the other, light would disable it.
The scientists successfully showed how shining a laser through the eyeballs of the mice into their brains could effectively activate or disable that part of the brain. When the neurons were shut down, the mice refused to eat.
When they were active, they couldn't stop eating.
How's that for some hardcore diet strategy?
