Flat pack technology is great. So IKEA is putting that to use to help others. IKEA's charitable arm the Ikea Foundation, has been working with the UN Refugee Agency to test new, better, easily assembled shelters for refugees. It addresses the issue of cost and scale and the shelter you see above costs around $1000 and can house a family of five.
The home even includes a solar panel that can power a lamp and a USB outlet. The shelters have been tested in Ethiopia and camps in Iraq and Lebanon designed for Syrian refugees. Check out how it gets assembled in the video below:
