Iran has plans to send a feline space explorer up to Space. According to the Associated Press, Iran's aerospace program announced it plans to launch a Persian cat into space by March. They've already sent a mouse, turtle, some worms and a monkey into space.

Of course, this isn't the first time a feline adventurer has been up to space. The first was sent by the French on October 18, 1963. The castronaut was a stray named Felicette, though the French's first choice was a cat named Felix. Some people think Felix escaped and was replaced at the last minute by Felicette.

Felicette was retrieved unharmed after her capsule gently entered back to Earth. But it was the second cat, later in the week whose fate was grim. Up until then, no cat has been to space again.

Let's hope that Iran's Persian cat does make it back to Earth safely, if they do intend to send a feline friend up.
