Wearable tech is here, and it is poised to change our lives with all the data it collects about our lifestyle. PBS Idea Channel host Mike Rugnetta explores whether or not that data can actually help to improve our health.
You may have heard of the Jawbone, Fitbit, Nike Fuelband or one of the myriad of other wearable self-tracking gadgets. Heck, you might even be wearing one right now! These gadgets help track everything from hours slept, calories consumed, to number of steps taken in a given day. But can they actually make you healthy??? Sure they provide us with tons of data about our bodies, but what do we DO with all that information?! Is it just about the knowing? Or does this actually motivate us to change and enhance our behavior? And if it does, can that be a bad thing?
A stable wireless connection supports multiple aspects of daily activities. However, the signal strength may get reduced in distant bedrooms, upper floors or balcony spaces. This happens because the intensity of radio waves reduces as they travel through walls, ceilings and furniture. Most of the standard Wi-Fi routers' coverage stays around 140 to 230 square meters. It is probably safe to say that the vast majority of us appreciate being able to safely go about our business. We are not looking to cause trouble or have it find us.
