DARPA Director Arati Prabhakar announced that biotechnology would soon surge into the military industrial complex. DARPA will be helming cyborg technology when it happens.

The organization announced that it will be opening a new biological technologies office, and will take over a number of existing DARPA projects which fall under the biotech blanket.
 
Living foundries made of bacteria will be created, capable of producing new types of biotech materials for mechanical, optical, and electrical equipment. They will develop new prosthetic limbs which could connect directly to your brain as an example.

DARPA aims to fully understand any new bio-weapon being used on the battlefield, and also how to develop drugs to counteract emerging disease epidemics.
