Flying is still the safest way to travel, statistically speaking. And passengers flying on commercial aircraft traveling to and from Israel will soon feel more secure thanks to an invisible shield made of MUSIC. It stands for MUlti-Spectral Infrared Countermeasure.
The laser system can deflect shoulder-mounted missiles and it can locate the missile and deflect it without the need for any action from the pilot.
A commercial version of the technology, C-MUSIC, has recently completed testing and is ready to be mounted on the underbellies of at-risk aircraft.
Pilots and air traffic controllers would then receive a notification of the detonating missile, and the first airline to receive the C-MUSIC system will be Israel's El AL Airlines.
