GE's futuristic fridge isn't about ordering your milk via the Internet before it runs out. Instead, it is a fridge that runs on water and magnets1
Researchers at the GE Labs have created a fridge that runs on magnets. It runs a water based fluid through a bunch of magnets to trigger the magnetocaloric effect, which describes the effect of some metal alloys gaining heat when near magnets, and then cools when pulled away.
GE has a small prototype which can reduce temperatures by up to 80 degrees and have tested it by filling it with warm bottles of Coors Light.
Check it out below. Your next fridge could be based on this tech.
