Imagine if You Could Genetically Test Your Unborn Child's IQ. One Company in China is Doing This.

We know around 65% of the genes that determine IQ are inherited. We just don't know which make the difference. But if we did, we could predict intelligence in an embryo. Chinese company BGI is working on that.
The company is also cloning pigs on an industrial scale, so it's safe to say, they know a thing or two about genes. Their theory is that once the genomes are mapped, we'll know which ones cause intelligence.
BGI's cognitive genomics section doesn't do any sort of genetic testing on human embryos but other parts of the company do, giving the company the potential to test embryos and, at the same time, figure out what makes people smart.
If we could map out these genes and test embryos, parents could fertilize several embryos and choose the one with the greatest potential for intelligence. We will have genetically enhanced human beings like the ones in the Gundam universe by then.
Head of BGI cognitive genomics Bowen Zhao told the Wall Street Journal, "people believe it’s a controversial topic, especially in the West. That’s not the case in China."
What do you think? Would you engineer your unborn child based on their potential for intelligence? And maybe more in the future?
