Windows 8 was the big change in the Windows operating system. Then version 8.1 came along to smooth out kinks in 8. Microsoft's annual BUILD conference is coming in April, and rumor has it that Windows 9 might be showing up.

Rumors of it - codenamed "Threshold", come from Paul Thurrott, who says the new OS will be announced this spring. Windows 9, if it is called that, could mark a big opportunity for Microsoft. Could it be an upgrade, or will it be a backtrack?

To be fair, Windows 8 isn't a disaster. It was just weird. A change in people's habits. 8.1 was a little better with some small tweaks, but yet it still didn't take off. What would Windows 9 bring this time?
