With spring just around the corner, many of us are looking to get in shape, perfect that beach body, and start new healthy habits. Part of this process is maintaining good health, and it is important that this is something that is a priority every day, and not just when the warm weather arrives. Here, we have some easy ways to help you to boost your health, and have you feeling in tip-top condition all year long!
Sleep
Sleep is one of the best things you can do for your body, and best of all, it is free! Research suggests that we should aim for around 8 hours a night, and establishing and maintaining a good sleep pattern is essential. While lie-ins can be tempting, try to go to bed and get up at the same time each day. This action helps to set your body up in a routine, making it easier for you to fall asleep and helping you to wake up feeling refreshed every day.
Cut The Caffeine
Due to poor sleep habits, many of us rely on caffeine to get us through a long day. Cutting the coffee can be hard, and you may experience some unpleasant side effects such as caffeine withdrawal symptoms, but in the long run, you will feel naturally more alert and awake, and your body will thank you.
Stay Hydrated
Another critical element of maintaining good health is making sure you have enough water. Human beings are composed of around 80 percent water, and it is vital to maintain our hydration levels throughout the day. Get into the habit of carrying a reusable water bottle around with you. If it is right there, you are more likely to use it. Drinking enough water will help to clear and brighten your skin, give you more energy, and help critical organs such as the kidneys to work to full efficiency.
Start Moving!
For most of us exercise is a chore. However, physical movement is essential to maintaining good health, and so it is important that you find a workout which suits you. This choice doesn't have to mean spending hours in the gym or pounding the pavement in a marathon.
Perhaps a crazy dancing session is more your style, or a relaxed bike ride? Experts suggest that you should get your heart rate up and moving for at least 30 minutes a day as a minimum. This activity will help to keep joints strong and supple, maintain a healthy weight, and allow your body to stay fit and active, reducing the risk of diseases such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes in later life.
Care For Your Mind
As well as taking the time to look after the physical body, it is important that we focus on taking time out for our minds too. Life is busy, stressful and hectic, and reports of mental health issues are on the rise. Take time for yourself doing what you love--a quiet walk, reading a book, or active mindfulness such as yoga and meditation. Neglecting your emotional and mental health can be catastrophic, so make sure you take time for you.
