Although it’s vitally important to stay healthy while you’re traveling – getting sick abroad is never fun – that good work has to start before you leave home. When you are preparing for travel, you should add some of the following tips to your to-do list because the healthier you are before you leave, the more fun you’ll have when you’re away. 

Eat Well 
You need to boost your immune system and ensure that it’s working properly before you embark on any kind of foreign adventure. The last thing you want to do is pick up some kind of bug on the flight to your destination and get sick when you arrive. That could lead to you missing out of a lot of exciting fun. 

Eating well in the weeks leading up to your departure (and longer if you can; a good diet should always be something you try to maintain) means consuming meals that are high in protein and fiber but low in carbohydrates. You need to be able to digest the meals properly so that as much energy and nutrition enters your body as possible. You should also drink enough water; roughly eight glasses (at eight ounces each) a day is a good amount. 

Being active increases your circulation and decreases your weight, and both of these things are good for you whether you are traveling or not. Your blood pressure will be lower, and you’ll be better protected against a variety of diseases such as type 2 diabetes and some cancers. Exercise allows your body to get fit and healthy so that your cells are able to repair themselves more efficiently. 

Stop Smoking 
Before you go on your travels, it’s a good idea to stop smoking. Not only is it bad for your health, but there are many places that you might want to visit where smoking is banned altogether – tourist attractions and restaurants, for example, not to mention flights. If you suddenly have to stop smoking because it is prohibited, your body will crave cigarettes. It’s far better to stop smoking in advance and get past the cravings stage so that you can enjoy yourself more. If you can’t stop altogether, then take a look at what has to offer as vaping and e-cigarettes could be a good alternative. 

Sleep Well 
Sleeping for at least seven to eight hours a night is good for you; it can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, reduce obesity, and it’s good for your heart. If you don’t sleep properly, you are going to make yourself ill, and as well as that, the jet lag that you might experience will take longer to shake; you could miss out on a lot because you’re missing out on sleep. 

Many people go on vacation in order to de-stress themselves, but if you can start the process before you go, you’re more likely to come home feeling refreshed and re-energized. Your mind and body are extremely closely linked, and that means that when you are stressed your body can suffer for it. Symptoms such as constant headaches, high blood pressure, confusion, and heart issues can all be linked to stress.
