[news] K-pop albums dominate Philippines record sales
2010.05.10
Kpop Fever brought more positive responses from fans! Manila Bulletin published an article today summarizing the albums that dominate the Filipino charts. From April 26 to May 2, record stores have revealed TVXQ’s Best Selection 2010 album topping sales. Super Junior, Girl’s Generation and U-KISS also managed to enter the chart’s Top Ten.
Four K-pop groups have dominated a weekly music chart in the Philippines with their albums, placing in the top 10 and with one idol group outselling Filipino and international artists.
The “Best Selection 2010” of boy band Tohoshinki (a.k.a. TVXQ) placed at No. 1 in Astroplus and Astrovision’s overall and international album charts for the period of April 26 to May 2.
Tohoshinki’s album shot to the top just two days after it was released in the Philippines. This is the first time that Tohoshinki topped a Philippine music chart.
The album edged out the albums of Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and the Glee soundtrack.
In the Bestselling International Albums chart for the same period, TVXQ was at No. 1, Super Junior’s “Super Show 2” album landed at No. 4, Girls Generation’s “Oh” at No. 7, and U-Kiss’ “Only One” at No. 10.
Cassiopeia Philippines, the Filipino fan club of TVXQ, welcomed the good news, saying that the boy band deserved to be on top.
“TVXQ is the best;” “So proud of them;” and “They really deserve it” were some of the comments posted on a Facebook page.
In Japan, “Best Selection 2010” reached double platinum status in March by selling 500,000 copies, according to the sales chart of the Recording Industry Association of Japan.
On the other hand, Super Junior’s “Super Show 2” album topped the international album chart back in February. The boy band held their “Super Show 2” concert in the Philippines last April 10.
U-Kiss will be coming back to Manila for their concert on May 29.
