Girl group 2NE1 has been expanding outside of their native Korea this year. Starting with promotions in Japan, 2NE1 has also release Taiwanese versions of their hit albums as they had done before in the Philippines and Thailand. Earlier this year the Korean version of their 2ND Mini Album reached #12 on G-Music's Weekly J-pop chart which includes K-pop releases. With the release of the official Taiwanese version of the 2ND Mini Album on August 26th, 2NE1 has captured #1 on the previously mentioned chart and even ranked #12 on the overall combined chart in Taiwan. With 11.3% of the sales in the J-pop/K-pop category and 0.5% of the sales of all albums this week, 2NE1 has edged out FT Island and V6 who also had releases this week.
As there are plans to release more licensed versions of their albums in Taiwan, could this hint towards a debut or at the very least, promotions in Taiwan? It seems the fans in Taiwan certainly hope so.
