Girls’ Generation is receiving great interests from foreign media after becoming the only Asian singers to have won an award at ‘YouTube Music Awards’. The popular girl group won the ‘Video of the Year’ award for “I Got a Boy” at the inaugural ‘YouTube Music Awards’ held in New York on November 3. Major media outlets including CNN, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, ABC News and New York Times reported on their success after they prevailed over global music stars. CNN posted an article, “K-pop group Girls’ Generation beats Miley, Lady Gaga to first place in YouTube awards.” They also reported, “The pop group is a national phenomenon in Korea. It’s not the group’s first foray into the United States, as the ladies appeared on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ and also ‘Live! With Kelly’ last year.” A representative stated, “The award means Korean artists won against world-famous celebrities and proved that Korean music and singers are able to lead the world in music. For that the foreign media showed their keen interest in the prize winning of the group.”
