Hyundai's newly announced 1.8 liter GDCI (Gasoline Direct Injection Compression) engine blends the working principles of both Otto and Diesel engines for a higher performance power plant using a 14.8:1 compression ratio as well as a turbo and supercharger.
The new engine claims it could achieve 25 percent better fuel efficiency than a regular one while running cheaper octane grade fuel.
The automaker plans to start testing it out next year.
