GE has teamed up with New-York based inventors Quirky to introduce 'The Spotter', a white disc that packs a technological punch. It's one of the handful of smart home objects that come "in one simple, button free, package. “

The device comes with sensors that can measure temperature, humidity, light, sound, and even motion. Users can install it anywhere using magnets or stickies. Once it's set up, the app companion lets users dial between actions and create actions and alarms to control almost every room in their home.

Designed by Jeff Bartenbach, Spotter is described as "the first product that brings it into the regular consumer realm.”  He also adds, "There’s no UI on the product... We don’t want to scare anyone away.” The designers intend to add extensions so that Spotter can work as a meat thermometer, or test soil to alert homeowners to water their plants.
