One of the biggest downsides about riding public transportation during peaks hours is being so close that you can smell someone else's armpit. And that's where this 'Spike Away' vest comes in.

The vest prototype comes from industrial designer Siew Ming Cheng, who came up with the idea as an undergraduate during a workshop at the National University of Singapore. The inspiration was to come up with a "Chindogu" solution, a Japanese term for a gadget designed to solve one mundane, everyday problem.

The vest was made using materials found in most hardware stores. The vest was created by looping strips of green, spiky, flexible plastic with cable ties. Such a simple but cost effective idea.
