Katy Perry was a sexy geisha for her AMA performance - giant fans, cherry blossoms, a Shinto shrine, and some props meant to look like the Great Wave off Kanagawa, and more. She did some poses off of a "sexy Geisha" Halloween costume which looked like a Chinese cheongsam and a kimono. Oh, and she left plenty of space to display her cleavage.

The peoples of the Internet then decided they were "Not Into It," concluding that Perry was being offensive. As Jessie David Fox wondered at Vulture: "Was Perry's Great Wave of Japanese signifiers offensive, simply stereotypical, or harmlessly deferential in an inert Katy Perry maximalist way?"
