According to a Reuters report citing "people familiar with the matter," three of Microsoft's biggest investors are petitioning the board to ask for Bill Gates' resignation.

The investors who hold more than 5% of Microsoft shares believe that Gates might circumscribe the power of the next chief executive, and prevent him or her from developing new strategies and making "substantial changes".

They are reportedly concerned that Gates, who now only owns about 4.5% of Microsoft shares, holds too much executive power relative to his holdings.

Microsoft did not respond for a comment on this matter.

What will happen? Will Gates be kicked out of the board?
