Cholesterol is a silent killer. You won't know it until it's too late. So the researchers at Cornell University have come up with an accessory for your smartphone that lets you measure it in mere minutes.

Called smartCARD, which is short for 'Smartphone Cholesterol Application for Rapid Diagnostics', it relies on cholesterol test strips that first process drops of blood, sweat, or saliva using chemical reactions.

The strips can be analyzed by a smartphone's camera.

Researchers at Cornell's Erickson lab are working to break down the data so the app specifies the levels of bad vs. good cholesterol.

Sounds like a device we all need. [Cornell University via Gizmag]
