The once ubiquitous media player known as Winamp will closing shop. The date: December 20, 2013. After running for 15 years, the news was announced alongside the release of the 5.66 version.

Nullsoft, creators of Winamp was acquired by AOL in 1999 for $80 million USD, and while they had intended to use it for AOL's Media Player, the app didn't quite take off. Then iTunes came along and everything was history.
